The full moon rises into the purple sunset sky above San Francisco Bay along the shores of Alameda Beach in Alameda, California.
Summer along the California coast means the arrival of summer fog which blankets the blankets the coast and drifts inland for miles until it encounters the warmer air of the interior valley. Tourists flocking to the San Francisco Bay Area during summer are surprised by the often chilly temperatures. It's California! It's always sunny and warm right?!
Of course, not every day is cold and grey. Far from it. Even a short distance can make a big difference.
The East Bay towns on the Oakland side of the bridge tend to enjoy more sunshine than the immediate San Franscisco area. Nevertheless, for most of the summer season, the blankets of fog usually begin rolling in by late afternoon and evening, turning clear skies grey.
